Kilight - Automated Home Lighting using Kinect SDK and Tellstick

When I first posted an article about automated home lighting, I was beside myself. The idea of being able to move from room to room and have lights automatically turn on and off depending on your presence is such a cool hack. Now we have another entry into the game that was developed using the Microsoft Kinect SDK in tandem with Tellstick.

Controlling the light in a room using Kinect for Windows to detect people and depending on what areas they are in turning on/off lamps.

This room has three areas, the Sofa, the desktop and the shelf. They light up when you enter those areas. All lamps also light up when you first enter the room so that you can get a full lit up view.

The GUI (shown in the bottom right corner) displays the areas (black if turned off, green if turned on) and how many people that is in that area.
